CJP seeks written replies from all parties on a letter written by six IHC judges regarding interference

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa sought written replies from all parties while hearing a suo motu taken on a letter written by six judges of the Islamabad High Court regarding interference in their working.

The court adjourned the case till May 7.

During the hearing, the CJP remarked that the nation was looking towards the judiciary. “There should be no political division over the issue. We will have to give beneficial suggestions for the free judiciary after coming out of filthy politics,” he observed.

He remarked that some people do not want independence of judiciary. “You (judges) should decide that you will not be used by any political force and government or sensitive institutions. A civil judge is as much powerful as the chief justice of the Supreme Court,” he observed.

The CJP remarked that he should go to home if he could not announce the verdict being under pressure. “We have not corrected ourselves even after revelation of our mistakes. We should not present so abysmal picture of the situation. Do you think the bureaucracy does not receive calls with directions to do this and that. The bureaucracy has no mechanism and it is very weak,” he observed.

The CJP ordered that if a secret agency wants to submit a reply it could do it through the attorney general. “It could be beneficial if the lawyers’ organizations submit a unanimous reply. Interference should be unacceptable whether it is from inside or outside. How can a chief justice order by phone to announce a particular verdict,” he remarked.

The court also ordered to make public the suggestions sent by five High Courts.
